What Is Woofer Organic Farming All About?
Woofer Organic Farming or more correctly WWOOF stands for Willing Workers On Organic Farms.
It is a program that helps people who would like to volunteer their time and energy to working on organic farms. In return they get to:
• Experience first hand, organic farming and growing techniques
• Experience life and living on an organic farm, especially relevant for people who live in towns
• Help organic farmers make producing organic food a viable alternative to conventional food
• Help communications within the organic movement
• Broaden their education and experience on an international scale if they so wish
WWOOF organisations help people to find out more about woofer organic farming and hold lists of host farms looking for volunteers.
Many countries have a national organisation that people can contact for more details.
Woofer organic farming experiences you can savor are:
• Saving organic farms from closure in some cases, some farms need a lot of help just to maintain their viability
• Making new friends, internationally if you choose to work abroad, many of whom will probably become long term friends
• Spending time with like minded people on a worthy cause.
• Getting back to nature and experiencing a slower pace of life (sometimes!) in the fresh air of the countryside
• Becoming very environmentally aware and learn how you can put something back into nature
• Travelling very cheaply whilst enjoying a wonderfully enriching experience
